No Man's Library / La Biblioteca di Tutti
    curated by Zerynthia

    Opening May 10th 2018 - 6 PM
Ex Biblioteca Universitaria, Piazza Università 21, Sassari (IT)
    Duration of the exhibition: 11/05/2018 - 30/06/2018

It happens in Sardinia, the marvellous island.
What’s going on? The spaces of the former library of the old University of Sassari – long since empty of their books that have migrated to a new building – are filled with contemporary art. Ceramics, textiles, bronze, glass and water, small objects, neon and laser, site-specific interventions... and obviously tons of paper, tons of words and different languages. Then there’s photographers, poets and filmmakers making their contributions. An exhibition in which each of the 54 artists of the international scene(16 nations and 4 generations) is given a set of shelves, from A to X, like in any respectable library. The exhibition, curated by Zerynthia, is accompanied by a programme of interdisciplinary workshops and seminars coordinated by Decamaster / University of Sassari.

    No Man’s City / Everybody’s Station

    No Man’s City / Everybody’s Station
by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle

curated by Zerynthia Association for Contemporary Art OdV

    August 10th 2017 - temporary installation
Station of Berchidda / Station of Oschiri (Sassari) , Italy

No Man’s City / Everybody’s Station, a site-specific intervention by Friedman with Decavèle moving from a place to another, embracing other events…

In this particular case:  Locomotive, a concert by Raffaele Casarano and Marco Bardoscia for the Time in Jazz Festival.

Chances of exchanges for a public on the move.

Following Friedman's theories, the act of building thus loses the connotations of appropriation of a space to acquire those of a method, capable of stimulating social self-regulation.

No Man’s City / Everybody’s Station is part of the triennial project Sentieri Contemporanei (Contemporary Paths) promoted by Fondazione di Sardegna with the Voluntary Contemporary Art Association Zerynthia and Decamaster / Master Degree in Law and Economics for Culture and Art of the University of Sassari, in collaboration with the Fondazione META, patrocinated by the No Man's Land Foundation.

    restāre

by Francesco Fonassi and Fabio Perletta

curated by NOW - New Operation Wave

Palazzo Casamarte, Via del Baio 4, Loreto Aprutino
    8th July - 8th September 2017

In the old oil mill of the Palazzo Casamarte, in the heart of Loreto Aprutino, Francesco Fonassi and Fabio Perletta present the site-specific sound installation  restāre (remaining, 2017, 6’25’’),  curated by NOW - New Operation Wave, in conjunction with Pian de Pian Piano for No Man's Land Foundation, by Alvin Curran.
Two synchronized sounds mark the difference between the hard work and rest of the oil workers. Perletta’s small frequencies, inspired by Japanese culture, are mixed with samples from Cujë la livë – a traditional song about the harvest recorded by Carlo Di Silvestre in 1995 and performed by the singers of the Gran Sasso – stratified by Fonassi, via a ‘hyper-vocal’ situation, to the point of reaching crepuscular sonorities.

The event is held in conjunction with the exhibition of the English landscape photographer Michael Kenna, promoted and organized by the Loreto Aprutino Civic Museum Foundation, curated by Vincenzo de Pompeis.

    Sentieri Contemporanei / Contemporary Paths

Setting from Alghero is the first leg of the triennial project Sentieri Contemporanei / Contemporary Paths, promoted by Fondazione di Sardegna with the Voluntary Contemporary Art Association Zerynthia and Decamaster / Master Degree in Law and Economics for Culture and Art of the University of Sassari, in collaboration with the Fondazione META, patrocinated by the No Man's Land Foundation. Two events discreetly and delicately offer an occasion to celebrate the Italian landscape:

    In-Giro / A-round
    30th April 2017,
Old market in the historic centre, Alghero, Italy

In-Giro / A-round is inspired by the Giro d'Italia, this year reaching its hundredth edition, which sets off precisely from Alghero. Bicycles speeding in unison along the rises and falls of the Italian roads, with an infinite variety of beauty that flies by yet remains impressed on the retina. Artistic wheels, circles and bicycles are on show in the old decommissioned market.

Participating artists: Maria Thereza Alves, getulio alviani, Marco Bagnoli, Massimo Bartolini, Gianfranco Baruchello, Elisabetta Benassi, Jimmie Durham, Jan Fabre, Marco Fedele di Catrano, Rainer Ganahl, Alberto Garutti, Laura Grisi, Fabrice Hyber, Felice Levini, H.H. Lim, Gülsün Karamustafa, Luigi Ontani, Luca Maria Patella, Cesare Pietroiusti, Vettor Pisani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniele Puppi, Annie Ratti, Gert Robijns, Maurizio Savini, Remo Salvadori, Ettore Spalletti and Donatella Spaziani.

The exhibition curated by Zerynthia will be accompanied by an unpublished text by the poet Francesco Serrao.

No Man's City / la Città di tutti
site-specific installation by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle
    3rd May 2017
Piazza Pino Piras and medieval Porta Terra Tower, Alghero, Italy

No Man's City / La Città di Tutti is a site-specific installation by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle composed of 400 wooden circles that in a combinatorial game form a mobile architecture that Friedman adapts each time to the urban landscape. No Man's City is based on the active participation of students from the University and from the Academy of Fine Arts of Sassari supervised by NOW - New Operation Wave.

"We all know how the cities are. They can, eventually, become different." Yona Friedman

In the adjacent medieval Porta Terra tower the public hosts video and paper documentation put together in Italy over the last three years by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle.
    Free entry to all citizens.

NOW Check-point / From La Montagne de Venise to No Man's Land

NOW Check-point / From La Montagne de Venise to No Man's Land

by NOW - New Operation Wave

    17th – 20th March 2017
    Venice -> Loreto Aprutino

A journey orchestrated by NOW - New Operation Wave setting off from La Montagne de Venise in the Venice Lagoon and leading to No Man's Land in Loreto Aprutino. Both interventions by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, that have had the active participation of NOW, are connected with the territory through their adaptable nature. They are not defined locations, nor are they pre-established architectural models, but rather they constitute a background for the development of a new vision of art and architecture. On the boundary between the two is born the willingness to create new images, far from the idea of a building or the mere object of a work of art in a world overflowing with constructions.

The NOW Check-point is set up as an extemporaneous residency where young architects, artists and curators are involved in the creation of a choral site-specific project based on the single modules making up the Montagne. The four days include discussions and moments of experimentation via simple actions.

    La Montagne de Venise

    La Montagne de Venise
by Yona Friedman with Jean Baptiste Decavèle

    28thSeptember - 1st October 2016

Venice - Arsenal, Punta della Dogana, San Marco Basin,
Biennale Gardens, Giudecca, Zattere, Fondamenta Nove

curated by Chiara Bertola and Giuliano Sergio

    project realized in collaboration with
the Querini Stampalia Foundation, the IUAV University and Fine Arts Academy of Venice

promoted and coordinated by Zerynthia Contemporary Art Association OdV

patrocinated by No Man's Land Foundation

Venice has always had a style of its own, a style which is unique in Europe and which has influenced the Orient. The Mountain is part of an attempt to create a style which is lacking in present day architecture. It is part of a small series which has already been realized (in other parts of the world). I do not know where this will lead but it is worth trying. I believe it could be an opening. Y.F

La Montagne de Venise is an architectural action realized in one of the Arsenal’s hangars, made from a mobile, transformable chestnut wood structure seven metres in height mounted upon a floating jetty reaching from the 28th to the 30th of September various points of the lagoon: Arsenale, Giardini della Biennale, Punta della Dogana, Bacino di San Marco, Zattere, Giudecca, Fondamenta Nove.

At each venue the floating Montagne was welcomed by performances with students, passerby, children coordinated by NOW - New Operation Wave.

The project was presented by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle at the auditorium of the Querini Stampalia Foundation on September 27th 2016.

The language chosen by Friedman for this project is that of fairy tales which gleans from popular imagination; Venice, with its theatrical, playful and carnivalesque tradition, is in perfect harmony with the project.

A very serious pic-nic in No Man’s Land

A very serious pic-nic in No Man’s Land
by NOW - New Operation Wave

    2nd and 3rd September 2016
No Man's Land by Yona Friedman  and  Jean-Baptiste Decavèle
Contrada Rotacesta – Loreto Aprutino (Pescara), Italy

A NOW meeting in No Man's Land as an anticipation of the workshop to be held in Venice born from this idea: No Man's Land is open to everybody but you have to play!

The aim is to discuss the concept of border as a limit of physical spaces and disciplinary fields. NOW intends to blur the boundaries between art, architecture and cross the limits that confine all of us in a specific field. This encounter is held in No Man's Land, a private territory donated to the community, without borders, open to everyone.

NOW members and participants explored the territory through mapping games and the bravest ones spent the night inside the intervention in No Man's Land, precisely inside the stone tapestry by Friedman/Decavèle. Each participant had a limited edition publication by NOW with the rules for the games. The purpose is to create a fertile ground for planting and growing new ideas and collaborations. A territory without boundaries is a representative place for an artistic nomad generation.
A virtual round table, broadcasted on RAM live (www.radioartemobile.it) and part of a special episode of NOW Radio, took place at Spazio Di Paolo creating a dialogue between NOW / institutions part of the project "La Montagne de Venise" by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle /entrepreneurs supporting No Man's Land / artists who work with the concept of limit / academics from art and architecture institutions / Zerynthia Association for Contemporary Art OdV
